The Heart Beat

One reason to subscribe to "The Heartbeat" is to get the inside scoop on the SF food scene.
Here is the news from this mornings newsletter:
June 29: We Heart Japanese with Hapa Ramen
hapa ramen japanese takeout @ heart
tuesday, june 29, 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
For one night only, San Francisco's Hapa Ramen will be hustling its bowls of gold from our 24th & Valencia street pop-up Ramen house.
We're not leaking the specifics just yet, but if they were to leak, they'd probably taste like miso, pork and sea vegetables with a dash of izakaya-style Japanese food (which will also be on the menu, provided by ours truly, Kitchenette).
Oh, and we're bringing in sake. Lots of sake.
For more information, email us at info@heartsf.com
You can also check out exclusive pictures from the last Outside In event that was held at Heart on the "Heartbeat"
The next Outside In event will be on June 26th in The Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco, so Mark your calendar.
You will be able to try a slice of pie from PieTisserie at the next Outside In. You can just order through the Provencial Pie Window.

Summertime has arrived, so go get some wholesome treats from Wholesome Bakery at 331 Cortland and an Rose Chai or Thai Strawberry Refresher {Strawberry Juice scented with Thai Basil, Keffir Lime Leaf, Lemongrass...} from Dezys Drinks, and if you're lucky you might end up there on a day that Sour Flour has some oven fresh bread.
You can vote for Dezys Drinks for the best cup of tea in the Bay. Vegan Almond Chai, Original Masala Chai or Rose Chai. Hope she makes the Bay Guardian Best of the Bay
This Summer, find yourself a cherry tree and get to pickin'

2. Blanch shucked English peas in salted water with a few drops of agave for 2 minutes then shock in ice bath. Puree with mint and lemon juice and season with salt and agave to taste.
3.Dice bacon and cook bacon. Save bacon fat. Cook sugar in a pan until caramelized. Add cooked bacon and a little bacon fat. Pour a thin layer of the bacon caramel onto a pan to cool to room temperature to harden.
4. Season sea scallops with salt and pepper. Sear both sides of scallops over high heat with minimal oil.
5. Place scallop on lotus chip, top with pea puree then bacon candy, mint and toasted sea fronds.
6. Squeeze lemon over everything. Finish w/ sea salt.

Summer is here. Do yourself a favor and download the Uproot Andy Remix of Los Rakas' Abrazame.
This time the market will be split into two shifts. The first will be focused on "take-homeables" -- jams, produce, soaps, desserts etc. If you want to avoid the crowds, this is a good time to go.
The second shift will be mainly hot food that's ready to eat. We'll have music, drinks for sale, and workshops. If you want to drink, eat some food, listen to some music and hang out, come at night!
The whole day will be mixed, with some jams at night and some BBQ during the day, but will mainly hew to the above.
We've got some really great stuff lined up for this market. As always, there'll be tons of new vendors, including Mission Cheese with amazing raclette heated with the coolest cheese heating contraption you've ever seen. You've got to see it to believe it.
Music by The Brothers Comatose from 8:30-10pm, a really great Blue Grass band that recently played Hardy Strictly Bluegrass Festival.
11am-4pm: Day market: "take-homeables"
4-6pm: Intermission. The indoor market will be closed for the vendor changeover. We'll have drinks and some hot food outside.
6pm-midnight: Night market: drinks, music, and hot food

+ $2 admission: gets you in a raffle for 2 tickets to a Wild Kitchen dinner ($160 value)

So you got dinner covered tonight. What a bout lunch?
HAPA is the answer.
I tried their chicken adobo yesterday and it is the only thing that rivals the Adobo Hobo this side of Guam.
Wet your appetite w/ the words of an SF Foodie
"Pilz's chicken adobo banh mi sandwich ($10), made with tender adobo-marinated chicken breast, crunchy strands of pickled jicama and carrots, and salsa verde was likewise flavorful."
