Mas Bhangra

In yesterday's feature on Jimmy Love and the Non Stop Bhangra crew, I didn't get around to shining a light on DJ Rav-E

Besides holding down a residency at Non Stop Bhangra as a DJ and Dhol player, Rav-E has also shared the stage with other big time Bhangra acts like Punjabi MC, RDB, Bikram Singh, Dr Zeus, Juggy D and Bobby Friction.

In addition to being a super tight DJ (as you can hear in the mix above), Rav-E has also provided live dhol percussion to to the NSB experience. With the NSB collective, Rav-E has opened for acts like Michael Franti and Ziggy Marley.

Originally the dhol was used by the Sikhs as a battle drum. It has also been used to celebrate successful harvests throughout Punjab and today is the heartbeat of Bhangra music and often makes an appearance at many Punjabi festive occasions.

and a new Tigerstyle tune
